The purpose of the DMNA Historic Signage Project is to create and install signage that highlights the history behind buildings and spaces in the downtown community.
The signage enhances the pedestrian experience for residents and visitors, supports local businesses, increases the sense of community in our neighborhoods, honors our past, and creates a legacy for the future.
The DMNA project is modeled after a similar project in the North Loop. Combined, the two neighborhoods highlight the history of downtown Minneapolis. The building’s detailed histories are available on the DMNA website or can be accessed through a QR code on each sign.
In 2021, the DMNA started its Historic Signage Project with 16 buildings in the Mill District, expanded into Historic Downtown with an additional 17 signs in 2022, and added another 19 signs in Historic Downtown in 2023.
