During the planning process for Phase I of the Neighborhood Revitalization Program, the Downtown Minneapolis Neighborhood Association identified four strategic priority areas to target investment: Arts, Culture & Education; Crime and Safety; Downtown Development; and Housing. These four priorities carried forward to Phase II of the Neighborhood Revitalization Program, as well as in the Neighborhood Priorities Plan.
The goal for the Arts, Culture, and Education strategic priority is to ensure there are arts, cultural and educational opportunities easily accessible to people of all ages and diverse backgrounds. Below are some projects the DMNA has supported with its Art, Culture, and Education monies:
- Theatrical experiences in Minneapolis Public Schools
- Restoration of the Shubert Theater (The Cowles Center)
- Hennepin Healthcare Children’s Literacy Program
- Mill City Farmers Market
- Makerspaces at Webster School
- Memorial to Survivors of Sexual Violence on Boom Island
- Pianos on Parade
