DESCRIPTION:The Mill Yard announces our new Spring Show \nOpening Reception Sunday\, April 13\, 4:00 – 6:00pm \nStonebridge Lofts\, 1120 South 2nd Street\, Minneapolis 55415 \nJoin us in welcoming these artists to The Mill Yard\, purchasing original art\, meeting neighbors\, and enjoying free beverages. \nThe Brick Oven School Bus Pizza Food Truck will be on site to purchase pizzas. \nLocal Artists featured at this show: \n\nTom Dimock\, Painter\nGreg Lecker\, Painter\nJeanne Lukas\, Ceramics\nDan Petrov\, Painter\nMary Sannerud\, Textiles\nAnne Waddell\, Jewelry – Opening Reception Only\n\nThe Mill Yard at Stonebridge Lofts \nThe Mill City.  Residents celebrate our area’s industrial heritage of the mighty Mississippi River and the mills. Today\, what we see are the most recognizable Minneapolis landmarks. However\, this is only part of the story. Rail lines were key to Minneapolis’ growth\, and were particularly integral to the Mill District\, bringing in wheat and timber and shipping out flour and lumber. We also honor the history of the mills\, the reason for the rail yard’s existence.  The Mill Yard aims to be both a gathering place for art and artists and a conduit by which art can be shared with and disseminated into the wider community. \nARTIST DETAILS: \nTom Dimock \nGrowing up\, Tom Dimock lived across the US while his father was a dentist in the Navy. His mother was an artist and besides her influence his father’s cousin is a famous Seattle artist. After Tom served on the USS Henry B. Wilson he earned his BFA from the Art Center in Pasadena\, California. He worked as a freelance illustrator while pursuing fine art\, later earning an MFA from the University of Minnesota. An award-winning Minneapolis artist with international acclaim\, he continues his career as a plein air impressionist\, painting across the U.S. and Europe. \nGreg Lecker \nGreg Lecker is a dedicated visual artist and naturalist. Greg works from direct observation as well as from writing and photographic references to study the natural world. Working primarily in oil\, his canvases illuminate with energy and color\, motion and emotion through brushstrokes\, color and light. “When a field painting session especially interests me; I explore the subject in the studio. I use my artistic practice as a way to understand the natural world and our connection to it.” Through multiple residencies Greg has studied the Mississippi & St. Croix Rivers and the Arctic Ocean (Svalbard\, Norway). Greg’s work is also on view at the Northrup King Building #183. \nJeanne Lukas \nJeanne Lukas is a ceramic sculptor. During her career in marketing she found clay her creative passion.  Jeanne’s journey began at the University of Minnesota then continued at the Northern Clay Center in Minneapolis\, Craft Alliance in St. Louis\, and Anderson Ranch in Colorado. She is currently working full-time in her Northrup King studio. Jeanne’s pieces are hand-built\, carved and textured in unique designs.  Her pieces range from functional to decorative. \nWebsite: https://nemaa.org/artists/jeanne-lukas \nDan Petrov \nBorn in Serbia\, Dan Petrov spent most of his University summers in northern Italy studying painting techniques of Renaissance and contemporary painters. After University his museum studies extended to France\, England and Holland where he copied old masters. Combining Indirect and Direct Painting Methods Dan arrived at the techniques he uses today.  His studies of visual art continued in Canada from 1992 to 2006 when he relocated his studio to Minneapolis. From 2006 to 2010 Dan was the part of The Atelier comprehensive studio art program. “During the last four years I have been painting narrative portraits that treat different aspects of human condition. These works go beyond the model and likeness to deliver more universal aspects of individual or group\, relations to tradition and culture and some stories that are fundamentally relevant for all of us.” \nMary Sannerud \nMary Sannerud is a felt-maker. She creates home textiles through the process of wet-felting. She came to this work by great surprise\, having grown up never using her hands to make beauty. She was taught traditional felt rug making in the U.S. by a family of felt-makers from Kyrgyzstan\, then lived and worked with her mentors in  Kyrgyz Republic for 3 months. This time of learning deeply rooted her work and gave her a broader understanding of the importance of felt in the home. She is constantly creating from her love of the land where she lives on the North Shore of MN. \nAnne Waddell\, Jewelry \nAnne has always been an artist. After graduating with a BFA in Metalsmithing and Jewelry Design she enjoyed a successful career selling high-end jewelry\, always creating her own in a garage studio. For over five years Anne has focused exclusively on her own brand\, drawing inspiration from her life experiences and nature. She works with gold\, silver and precious and semi-precious gemstones. She has numerous successful collections and curated partnerships which allowed her to open a new studio in Deephaven\, MN. \n  \nContact us at: \nTheMillYard.Stonebridge@gmail.com \nMORE INFORMATION: \nWebsite: TheMillYard.org \nFacebook:  https://www.facebook.com/TheMillYardatStonebridgeLofts \nInstagram: https://www.instagram.com/themillyard.stonebridge/

SUMMARY:Reawakening of Color at the Stonebridge Lofts - Opening Reception April 2
DESCRIPTION:OPENING RECEPTION\nSunday\, April 2\,  4:00 – 6:00 PM\nStonebridge Lofts\, 1120 South 2nd Street\, Minneapolis 55415 \nJoin us at The Mill Yard opening reception to meet the featured artists and engage with beautiful art.  Wine\, beverages\, and snacks are served. \nArtists featured at this show: \n\nTracy Frizzell\, Painter\nEddie Hamilton\, Painter\nPeder Hegland\, Studio Potter\nAndy Ness\, Painter\nDean Seaton\, Photographer\nAnne Waddell Toohey\, Jewelry – Opening Reception Only\n\nARTIST DETAILS: \nTracy Frizzell \nGrowing up in a family of artists\, Tracy began her artistic career early. Raised in northern Minnesota\, her inspiration was always water and nature. Tracy graduated with degrees from North Dakota State University in landscape architecture\, environmental design and art. With each piece she “strives not only to accurately portray a scene but also capture that elusive ‘something’.”  Tracy paints in oil or watercolor utilizing a style that adds action to the scenes. Her favorite subjects are Minnesota and Canadian wilderness\, but also urban and industrial landscapes that characterize much of Minneapolis. \n  \nEddie Hamilton \nEddie is a painter living and working in Minnesota. A native of Los Angeles\, his palette is inspired by his childhood in the sun and surf. His paintings use a gestural feel with attention to line and form to reflect childhood joys.  Eddie has painted urban surreal and naïve scenes full of color and energy.  Currently his work has evolved to bring that energy to paintings of nature and wildlife. Eddie’s work has been shown around the country. \n  \n  \nPeder Hegland \nPeter has been a full time Studio Potter since 1976.  He is grateful to have studied with masters: Dean Schwarz\, Peter Deneen\, David Stewart and Marguerite Wildenhain.  Ancient pottery from around the world has also been his teacher.  Making pots that are useful and beautiful to look at and touch has always been his goal and pleasure. For the past 30 years Peder has worked and lived on Pine Point\, a little peninsula north of Sartell\, MN surrounded on two sides by the Mississippi River. The river\, it’s trees and animals\, always provide daily lessons. \n  \nAndy Ness \nAndy earned his BFA from Pratt Institute and his MFA from the Rhode Island School of Design. His artist residencies have included the prestigious Vermont Studio Center\, MacDowell Colony\, Denniston Hill\, and he was a two-year Fellow at the Fine Arts Work Center in Provincetown\, MA.  Andy has taught at RISD\, Studio in a School in New York City\, and the Grand Marais Art Colony. Andy’s work has shown both nationally and internationally. He currently has shows in Texas\, Tennessee and in Trento\, Italy. \n  \n  \nDean Seaton \nDean has been using photography as art for over a dozen years.  He perfects capturing a moment in time that “tells a story and evokes emotions through the use of line\, shape\, color\, lack of color\, shadow\, texture\, subject matter and composition.”  He has learned the big difference between taking a picture and making a picture. He explains\, “making a picture takes patience\, thought\, timing and sometimes a bit of luck.”  All his images are Limited Editions that include a Certificate of Authenticity.  Dean’s studio is in the Northrup King Building. \n  \nAnne Waddell Toohey \nAnne has always been an artist. The sun was spellbinding on the earth.” \nRichard James Nelson\, “My woodblock prints are inspired by the Inuit and Japanese printmaking and echo the spiritualness of nature.” \nJulie Carson\, “On any given day\, you will find me scouring the ground looking for objects\, patterns and colors to photograph. Photography captures and holds the moment to draw upon later.  No matter where I go\, I find ideas in a rusted trash can\, leaf or  flower.” \nMarilyn Cuellar\, “I find my vision in the details of life. My art brings out the subtle details in its subjects\, creating a picture of life more particular than the fleeting glance with which we normally look at the world. “ \nErnest Miller\, “As a maker\, inspiration comes from field landscape\, farm implements\, and architectural features such as barns found in the Midwest as starting points for ceramic vessels and glaze surfaces. Observations of source material may be interpreted literally or sometimes abstracted using elements to complement functional or sculptural forms.” \nNick Earl\, “I am continually fascinated by the softness and reception of the clay from which my pots are made. These qualities translate into the finished pieces\, objects that will hopefully enrich the regular ceremonies of life. I have a strong interest in art history and I try to exhibit the strength and beauty I see in old pots in my own work.” \nAudra Smith\, “My goal is to make well-made\, utilitarian pottery. I continually explore color\, pattern\, space\, and shape in the surface decoration\, all of which inform the ongoing discovery of my personal language as a ceramic artist.” \n
