SUMMARY:Explore Downtown Living May 16 and 17
DESCRIPTION:The Minneapolis Downtown Council and its Intersections: Downtown 2025 Plan Development Committee recently announced the launch of the Explore Downtown Living campaign. \nOn May 16 and 17\, Explore Downtown Living will offer an exclusive tour of 22 residency communities spanning five distinct downtown neighborhoods with an emphasis on showing all the great amenities that can’t be fully shown or appreciated on a property listing. Neighborhoods include the North Loop\, Loring Park\, Central Business District\, Downtown East/Mill District and Northeast. \n“This is an exciting time to be considering a move downtown\,” said Steve Cramer\, President & CEO of the Minneapolis Downtown Council and Downtown Improvement District. “With so much development and growth happening all around us\, downtown is\, now more than ever\, a desired place to call home. We want to make sure people have a chance to explore downtown and decide which neighborhood works best for their lifestyle.” \nDowntown’s population has steadily increased since 2006\, jumping by 18 percent over the past nine years to 38\,909. Explore Downtown Living celebrates and welcomes this trend of downtown residential growth\, and it offers individuals and families—ranging from Millennials to Baby Boomers—a chance to see first-hand some of the apartments available in the downtown area. \nA new website\, ExploreDTLiving.com\, also launched and is designed exclusively to showcase Explore Downtown Living’s featured residencies. It highlights downtown’s specific neighborhoods\, maps out apartment community locations and identifies\, biking\, car-sharing\, parking\, retailers\, and\, restaurants\, making it easier than ever to live downtown and be mobile with or without a vehicle. Explore Downtown Living Field Guides will also be printed and available at the featured communities for those interested in exploring the residential tour. Registration is required and available now on the website. \n“Living Downtown is all about proximity\, community\, and character—Downtown is the only place where jobs\, retail\, grocery\, entertainment\, culture\, recreation\, and living all come together\,” said Mike Ryan\, chair of the 2025 Plan Development Committee and Director of Architecture and Engineering at Ryan Companies. “Explore Downtown Living is all about showing off the great variety of neighborhoods and living options that exist\, so people can see and find what fits them best.” \nContacts:\nMark Remme\n(507) 290-1452\nmremme@downtownminneapolis.com \nLeah Wong\n(612) 269-7986\nleahw@downtownminneapolis.com \nOne of the 2025 Plan’s 10 main initiatives calls for increasing downtown’s residential population to 70\,000 by the year 2025. Several of its other initiatives complement achieving that goal\, including improved greening and public realm\, creating a consistently compelling downtown experience and becoming a national leader in transportation options\, among others. \nExplore Downtown Living aims to showcase the vibrancy and development currently defining an era of growth and prosperity in the core of our city. A subcommittee of the 2025 Plan’s Development Committee\, co-chaired by Jennifer Gordon (The Excelsior Group) and Brent Webb (Sherman Associates)\, led the initiative and focused on showcasing the vast residential landscape taking shape throughout downtown. \nResidential communities being showcased at Explore Downtown Living include: \n222 Hennepin\n4 Marq\n430 Oak Grove\nBrunsfield North Loop\nChurchill\nDock Street Flats\nGrain Belt\nHeritage Landing\nJunction Flats\nLaSalle and Stage\nLatitude 45\nLoring Park Apartments\nLPM\nMill & Main East/West\nNic on 5th\nPaxon\nRed 20\nSolhavn\nSoltva\nThird North\nVÉLO\nVue \nThe Explore Downtown Living event is being produced by the Minneapolis Downtown Council and the Downtown 2025 Plan Development Committee in partnership with Target\, VON91\, Mpls.St.Paul Magazine\, along with additional partners.\nFollow Explore Downtown Living on social media using the hashtags #ExploreDTLiving\, #1MillionReasons and #2025Plan. \nAbout the Minneapolis Downtown Council: \nFounded in 1955\, and one of the oldest central business associations in the nation\, the Minneapolis Downtown Council (MDC) is a membership-based entity that works to create an extraordinary downtown. The MDC’s collaborative developments of Intersections: The Downtown 2025 Plan was designed to help downtown businesses\, community leaders and citizens build on downtown assets and implement future goals. SUMMARY:DMNA Kids Zone at Open Streets!
DESCRIPTION:YOUR CHANCE TO PLAY IN THE STREET! \nThe Downtown Minneapolis Neighborhood Associations\, along with several fantastic downtown partners\, is hosting a Kids Zone during Downtown Open Streets on Sunday\, August 23rd.   \n\nFirst Ave and a portion of Washington will be closed to traffic and turned over to cyclists and pedestrians for fun and games.  \n  \n\n\nWE NEED VOLUNTEERS! \nTo make this inaugural event a success\, we need Kids Zone volunteers.Contact Joan.Bennett@thedmna.org if you would like to volunteer for any of the positions below.\n  \nSET UP CREW (10:00 AM – 11:30 AM)   (6 volunteers) \nWe need folks to unload equipment\, set up tents\, babysit equipment on the sidewalk and quickly move items into place when the street shuts down to traffic and the event begins at 11:00. It will be part cross-fit and part gentle yoga with some fun “hurry up and wait” thrown in. \nAV MASTER (10:30 am – 11:30 am) (1 volunteer) \nWe need a savvy individual to set up our borrowed sound system.  It will not be TOO complicated. \nACTIVITY COORDINATOR  (11:00 AM – 5:00 PM) \nHave a great kids activity you’d like to bring to the street (an art project\, junior-safe cross fit\, etc.)?  We will make room for you. \nFACE PAINTER ( VARIOUS SHIFTS — 11:00 AM – 5:00 PM) \nNo skill necessary.  There are no mirrors at Open Streets. \nCHALK ARTISTS (10:45 AM – 11:30 AM) (2 to 3 volunteers) \nWe need folks to mark the ends of the DMNA Kids Zone with fun chalk lettering. No skill needed. If you have mastered the English alphabet and can crouch low enough to draw on the street\, you are fully qualified. \nCLEAN UP CREW (4:30 PM – 6:00 PM)   (6 volunteers) \nSad. The event is over. Now we need help taking down tents and loading equipment into the moving van. See you next year!

SUMMARY:CANCELED -- Info/Feedback Session #3 on a Proposal to Form Two Independent Neighborhood Associations
DESCRIPTION:The Downtown Minneapolis Neighborhood Association Membership vote on a proposal to form two independent neighborhood associations has been canceled.\nBased on feedback received during the August engagement meetings as well as lack of board consensus on how to proceed\, it has been decided that the process to hold a vote on forming two independent neighborhood associations will be suspended indefinitely. Should a future slate of board members choose to do so\, the issue may be revisited. \nThe DMNA would like to thank all those who provided feedback as well as attended or promoted the engagement meetings.  The process provided the DMNA with valuable information and new connections within the downtown community.  The DMNA hopes this process has provided a starting point for deeper community engagement. \n\nThe September 21st Board Meeting will be held as scheduled at The Depot. Elections for new board members will be held at the Annual Meeting on October 19th. More details to follow. \nPlease contact Joan.Bennett@thedmna.org with questions.
