SUMMARY:March Livability Committee Meeting
DESCRIPTION:The Livability Committee meets on the 2nd Monday of the month at a rotating location.  This month we will meet in Room 203 at Open Book. \nMarch Topics: \n\nExpansion of the Downtown Improvement District? \n\nKathryn Reali\, the COO of the Downtown Council & DID\, will attend our meeting to discuss engagement and planning efforts around potential DID expansion areas. The Livability Committee will report back to the board.\nThis information will help inform if/how the DMNA might assume a position or a play a role.\n\n\nProposed Repeal of the Sidewalk Congregation Law\n\nThe City Council will explore repealing a law that prohibits three or more people from congregating on a public sidewalk.  Proponents of the law argue that it is a valuable tool for crowd control and crime prevention. Opponents argue that because the law is selectively enforced\, it should be repealed and replaced with more equitable law enforcement strategies.  (You will find more info in this recent Strib article.)\nA representative from CM Yang’s office\, the proposal’s co-author\, will present the proposal and answer questions. The Livability Committee will discuss this issue and provide recommendations to the Board as to how the DMNA might formally comment on the issue.\n\n\n\n

SUMMARY:East Downtown Council -- District Branding Initiative Community Meeting
DESCRIPTION:The East Downtown Council invites you to attend a special multi-organization meeting on  Monday\, April 25\, 6 p.m. at North Central University’s Trask Worship Center located at 1400 Elliot Ave South\, Minneapolis. This meeting will provide an overview of the multi-year district branding process\, presentation of three potential names for our district\, and a discussion of the\nfinal name and logo to be selected. This will be your last opportunity to provide input and feedback in the process.\nThe featured presenter of the meeting will be Kelly O’Keefe\, Professor\, Brand Center Virginia Commonwealth University. O’Keefe is a nationally recognized branding expert who has worked on brand initiatives with cities\, universities\, businesses\, non-profits\, and neighborhoods. O’Keefe has been a consultant on the East Downtown Council project working with PadillaCRT. Still unsure what this initiative is all about? \nThere has been a great deal of media coverage on the initiative and the Star Tribune provided this concise statement of intent:“With so many different uses popping up at once\, developers and community leaders are left wondering whether this is becoming a tourism district or an up-and-coming residential neighborhood\, a place to relax and recreate or a place for diverse-income housing and human services. The East Downtown Council says that it can be all\, but that a larger umbrella name is needed to describe the district so that one portion of it doesn’t hijack the identity or fall short\nof capturing all that it offers.” \nPlease join us\, your input is welcomed and appreciated! \nWhat: East Downtown Council Branding Initiative\nWho: Elliot Park and East Downtown organizations\, East Downtown Council\nmembers the Downtown Minneapolis Neighborhood Association and\ninterested citizens\nWhen: Monday\, April 25\, at 6 p.m.\nWhere: North Central University Trask Worship Center\, 1400 Elliot Ave So.\,\nMinneapolis\, MN 55404.\nParking:\n• Street Parking – As available.\n• “Lot G” Free Guest Parking For This Mtg. – 801 E 15th St.\, Minneapolis\, MN\n55404.\n• “Lot C” Free Guest Parking For This Mtg. – 734 E 15th St.\, Minneapolis\, MN\n55404.\n• Any parking questions\, call NCU Security 612-343-4445
