Commissioners - Minneapolis Park Board
Dear Commissioner,
With the increased usage of the Mississippi Mile parkway due to the opening of the James J. Hill Stone Arch Bridge, it has come to our attention that there is a potential danger here. The walking and biking paths are not adequately marked so as to distinguish their proper usage. Many patrons seemed confused on which they should use. The combination of pedestrians and bikers/bladers makes for a disastrous mix.
The Board of Directors of the Downtown Minneapolis Residents Association is asking that you consider improved markings on these paths. An example of adequate marking would be what is found around any of the city lakes. In the future, when more money is available, it would be beneficial to have the paths completely separated at all places and to have the two paths complete a circle crossing at the Plymouth Avenue Bridge and the Stone Arch Bridge. This would give it the feel of a lake and would provide recreation users a complete "circuit."
