Downtown Minneapolis Residents AssociationAugust 8, 1995
The Honorable Sharon Sayles Belton
Mayor, City of Minneapolis
City Hall - Room 331
350 South Fifth Street
Minneapolis, MN 55415
Dear Mayor Sayles Belton:
We have serious concerns about the proliferation of unwanted land uses in our downtown neighborhood and therefor question the proposed zoning change that would limit the location of firearms dealers to B3C and B4C. Downtown must also be considered as a neighborhood. There are 25,000 residents of downtown. The Metro 2000 Plan did, and the Metro 2010 Plan will, call for further residential development in this fragile neighborhood. In addition, leaders (including political) have traditionally been fond of referring to downtown as "everybody's neighborhood."
To concentrate unwanted land uses in this very important community threatens it's future. We are willing to accept our fair share of these unwanted land uses in our community, but resist having a disproportionate share. We already have a disproportionate number of chronic-inebriate facilities, adult entertainment, homeless shelters, the garbage burner, etc. because other neighborhoods don't want them.
Yours sincerely,
George H. Rosenquist, Jr.
